MOJWJVA is seeking passionate individuals for our 2026 Digital Democracy Fellowship. 

We aim to place one fellow in each region of Missouri: Mid-Mo, Kansas City, St. Louis, Columbia, and Springfield, for a five-month fellowship where you will gain hands-on experience with:

  • Data-driven messaging – Using insights to inform communication strategy
  • Story building for change – Crafting narratives that move people to action
  • Interview techniques – Speaking confidently with community members and leaders
  • Content creation and design – Creating engaging multimedia materials
  • Social media analytics – Measuring impact and adjusting strategy accordingly

This fellowship is designed for self-starters who are values-aligned with our mission—people who care deeply about social justice, workers’ rights, and economic equity. If you’re nimble, ready to pivot as the landscape changes, and eager to explore your passion for communications, data analysis, and/or political organizing within a powerbuilding organization, this opportunity was built for you. This role is for someone who is creative and willing to experiment with new ideas and trends. Applicants must be able to commit a minimum of 5 hours per week consistently through November.

This fellowship will take place from July 1 (start date ASAP) to November 13. The position will be a hybrid working environment where you can work from home and will be expected to attend events in the community or MOJWJ events bi-weekly and conduct one-on-ones that may take place in person. 

At the end of the fellowship, you will have built a portfolio that includes:
  • 35 Social Media posts (1-2 social media posts per week) including:
    • Informational posts
    • Popular education posts
    • Campaign-focused posts
    • Event recaps
    • Labor History Posts 
    • Collaboration 
    • Story Based Post 
  • Leading 2 sessions during the digital cohort
  • Conducting 5 MissOURi interviews
  • Completing 10 one-on-one conversations
  • Writing at least two of the weekly emails
  • One press release
  • Attending Missouri Jobs with Justice events to capture content (photos, video, quotes, etc.)

 

Why We Pay Fellows

We believe effective organizing requires time, energy, and skill-building—and that work deserves fair pay. This fellow ship will pay $2,500 in total and divvy it out as a $500 monthly stipend does two important things:

  • Levels the playing field by reducing financial barriers that often keep low-income and marginalized voices out of civic work
  • Ensures steady participation and accountability throughout the program

This investment transforms the fellowship into a genuine career pathway, providing hands-on work, mentorship from experienced organizers, and practical skills that prepare you for future roles. It helps build a leadership pipeline that’s more diverse, committed, and sustainable for Missouri Jobs with Justice.

FAQs

Do I need previous communications or organizing experience?

No. We’re looking for people who are passionate about social justice and eager to learn. Whether you’ve managed social media for a student organization or are just beginning to explore organizing, we encourage you to apply.

Fellows should expect to dedicate a minimum of 5 hours per week throughout the five-month fellowship. Some weeks may include community events or meetings, while others will focus on content creation and collaboration.

The fellowship is hybrid. Most work can be completed remotely, but fellows should be prepared to attend community events, MOJWJVA activities, one to one’s, and occasional in-person meetings within their region.

There isn’t one “right” format. We want to learn more about you and why you’re interested. Your submission could be a short video, letter, slideshow, graphic, social media post, or another creative project that showcases your personality and interests.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Selected applicants will be contacted for an interview before final fellowship selections are made.
